Voies Recyclables Finishes 15-Month Odyssey

Date: July 10, 2023
Approximate GPS Location: (48.12°N, 2.03°W)

Hélary and Schiettecatte have completed their 15-month cycle tour through Europe.

The pair’s final few weeks took them from Italy’s Five Lands National Park (five colorful fishing villages along a dramatic coastline), into their home country of France.

After so long on the bikes, they elected for a flat route home along the Canal Du Midi. They feared it might be a boring route but were surprised to find beautiful paths, vineyards, and forests.

After the canal they joined the Velodyssee cycle route that would take them home to Brittany. They cycled through “peaceful and diverse” landscapes before finishing their journey along the ocean.

“This last evening is obviously full of emotions. We're both proud of what we've accomplished and sad to see it end,” they wrote on their final night. On their last day they were joined by over 30 family and friends to ride into Iffendic, their hometown.

“We know that this feeling will remain unexplainable to those who haven't experienced it. A feeling of being out of place, being both very happy and deeply sad. We know it will take a while to channel these emotions. Despite everything, we're obviously very happy to be here today. We were welcomed like kings… this is the end of this adventure. But not the last one,” they wrote in a final post.
