Police Trouble and a Twisted Ankle; Istanbul Just 10 Days Away
Marie and Nil crossed into Turkey from Bulgaria and were immediately struck by how different the country felt after their long journey through the Balkans.
Making their way through Turkish villages they were greeted by many curious locals but soon received a shock. A police car pulled over and asked to check their passports. Apparently 15 people had called the police to report migrants on the road! Marie and Nil were taken to a local police station where things were quickly cleared up.
Back on the road, they arrived in the town of Edirne where they would meet their next guest. For the second time in their journey, they would be joined by Cath, Marie’s mother. Together, they made good time towards Istanbul. In fact, Cath proved so fast that they ended up with some extra time! They quickly made a new route to take in some of the Black Sea coast and hills above Istanbul.
It was a snowy, cold two-day hike, with a surprising number of freezing streams and rivers to cross. Cath then headed home, while Marie and Nil welcomed more guests. Julie and Noe join them for the final 10 days to Istanbul.
Unfortunately, on their first day together Nil turned his ankle jumping over a fallen tree. The sprain seems quite severe and the group are waiting to see if he’ll be able to continue.
