After reaching the South Pole, Ben Saunders put a quick end to his attempt to cross Antarctica. He relented in part because his food supply had run short and he would have had to ration. He felt more exhausted and unconfident than usual and opted in the interest of greater wisdom rather than pushing the envelope.
