Upper Mississippi: Dam Portages, Then Locks

Date: September 14, 2018
Approximate GPS Location: (44.78°N, 93.00°W)

Maldague is still kayaking the Minnesota portion of the Mississippi River, the portion closest to it's source. He reports that upstream from Minneapolis he had to make quite a few portages around dams, whereas after Minneapolis, barge traffic started and he had to pass, as a tiny kayak, through large locks. Another welcome change was that after 7-10 days of rain and cloud cover, he has now enjoyed bright, sunny days.
