Boom Installed; Side Trips to Tikal, Acantenago
Maldague continues to make progress, steadily but surely, working on his sailboat Tsamaya. He finally installed a new boom on the mast, the culmination of an undertaking he had explained as a major repair.
He says he has made progress on some lights and fans and that he needed to tend to an issue with the injector pump on the motor. It is important to note that, since his journey is a completely human-powered one, the motor is only in place for emergencies and for getting in and out of marinas.
During this period some of Maldague's friends from Belgium came to visit. After assisting Maldague with boat repairs, the three of them visited Guatemala's nearby ancient Mayan city of Tikal. They also took time out to climb Acantenago Volcano (13,000 feet, 3976m).
After kite-skiing the Arctic; cycling in Canada, the US and Mexico; and kayaking the Mississippi source-to-sea, Maldague is on his fourth leg of his completely human-powered journey. Once he makes his sailboat seaworthy, he will cross the Caribbean Sea from Belize to Guyana.
