Against the wind, Maldague Sails for South America

Date: November 15, 2022
Approximate GPS Location: (11.18N, 60.73W)

Maldague reports a “quiet 27-hour sail” from Grenada to Trinidad and Tobago. During the night, they sailed close to Trinidad’s offshore oil rigs before arriving in the harbor and beginning the immigration process.

After a little over a week exploring the island, Maldague was able to latch on to a new boat headed for French Guyana. It is set to be a challenging journey, against the currents and wind, so the owners of the sailboat were keen to bring on extra crew to help out.

First, they sailed from Trinidad to Tobago on November 4. Next, it was about waiting for an appropriate weather window to head for South America.

The weather finally cooperated on November 12, and they departed, heading for the Marooni River on the border of French Guyana and Suriname. They estimate that their journey should take between four and five days.
