After Lengthy Hiatus, A Small Start to Little Cayman
Arnaud Maldague has been holed up on Grand Cayman since earlier October, taking an elongated break from his quest.
Initially, he had needed to make some repairs to his sailboat, but the majority of his stay has been by choice; a welcome break to soak up the sun and enjoy time with some of the island’s inhabitants.
On January 4, he finally set off again. He manoeuvred his boat out of the lagoon and into the ocean, taking advantage of the north-east winds to move towards the island of Little Cayman.
Little Cayman lies 80 nautical miles from Grand Cayman and the crossing took 36 hours, at a “slow but steady pace.” He will make a brief stop on the island before heading on towards Jamaica.
