Salopek’s progress has been slowed by the pandemic in Myanmar, but it seems that he is still able to move internally. In our last update, he had headed south, from Mandalay to Yangon. Now it appears he has reversed course, heading north to the Burmese Himalaya.

Salopek’s last few posts have come from Putao, the northernmost town of Kachin state. Putao appears to be the hometown of his walking partner Ja Pha "Jay" Se. In a recent video post, Jay takes us into the Himalayan foothills to see Myanmar blanketed by snow!
