Salopek Approaches the Irrawaddy
Date: February 19, 2020
Approximate GPS Location: (22.58°N, 95.69°E)
Salopek’s trek through northern Myanmar has taken him away from the Chindwin River towards another mighty waterway, the Irrawaddy.
Along his route through the villages of the Sagaing region, he has encountered numerous locals wearing thanaka, a skin cream made using wild tree bark that has been ground down to a white paste. With walking partner Japha “Jay” Se, he has continued to make short videos showing daily life amongst these small communities.
Salopek has recently reached the city of Shwebo, just 110km north-west of Mandalay.
