Progress across Rajasthan, and the health benefits of urine
Salopek has continued to make progress across the huge Indian state of Rajasthan alongside walking partner Priyanka Borpujari, and of course Raju the donkey.
One of the goals of the expedition has been to meet and mingle with people, in order to better understand our world. While crossing Rajasthan he has met a variety of the region's residents. Near the small city of Hindaun, he came across a camel driver. The driver imparted his secret to keeping a camel's coat smooth. “I feed her buffalo milk,” the man explained.
In the village of Mothiyapur he met Mukar Singh Gujjar, a cow shelter worker, who was keen to extol the health benefits of his job, “the power of cow urine is great. One teaspoon filtered through muslin every morning. It builds the immune system.”
