Not all Wishes are Fulfilled in Buddha’s Footsteps
Salopek and his walking partners have continued along the Buddha trail through Bihar state, India. In the city of Rajgir, they took in the surrounding landscape from Vulture Peak, a favourite meditation site of the Buddha.
Slowly making their way across the countryside they have continued to observe rural life, from tiny blacksmiths to shops selling handmade silks.
On April 26 they made it to another milestone, number 65 of the trip. This marked 6,400 miles and 2,298 days of walking. It was a gray, overcast day and the first person they met seemed to mirror the weather's mood: “I think—what should I do in life? What have I done? What have I not done? I do feel like going out from here, living somewhere else. But we’re not that educated. If it were up to me, I’d roam around like you—to Africa, Europe. I’d like to go to different places. But all wishes aren’t fulfilled.”
