Crossing the Ken River; Salopek Reflects on Sexism

Date: December 04, 2018
Approximate GPS Location: (27.16°N, 81.81°E)

Salopek has crossed the Ken river and is walking through the seemingly endless farmlands of Madhya Pradesh.

In his most recent dispatch for National Geographic, Salopek discusses some of the injustices he has observed during the expedition. The most common? “It is not the suppression of minority cultures. Nor is it the endless variety of intolerance rooted in religion or race. No. It is the much subtler exclusion of women from humanity’s ledger book of rewards and opportunities. No country is immune from this prejudice.”
