Dykes Reaches Wuhan, 2nd-To-Last Major Milestone
Dykes has walked up to the major city of Wuhan, with a population of 11 million it is one of China's 10 most populous cities. This brings Dykes within 750 miles of completing the walking of the 4000 mile long Yangtze river.
He will stay in the metropolis for about two weeks giving talks, book signings and doing some filming.
Wuhan is also known as one of China's 'three furnace' cities, cities known for their scorching summer heat. Dykes says he has been struggling with the intense heat and humidity. On June 5 he reported a temperature of 95F with 60% humidity. "When I breathe in, I can feel it on my lungs. It's like being in a sauna." He has also been fighting pain from blisters and chaffing.
Despite the anguish, Dykes reminded us of his upcoming "incredible" documentary and book but said he feels they cannot do justice to capture how wonderful the journey has been. "I already have those feelings - almost that I don’t want it to end."
