Dykes and his friend Martyn have made it to the city of Chongqing, western China's biggest city at 15 million. The city also served as the Allies' stronghold against the Japanese World War II invasion.
This concludes a 180-mile stretch from Yibin, where Dykes was in our last update. He said that some of the days were ambitious ones with him walking 31 miles (50km). He also wrote that his walking partner Martyn "smashed it" which is a compliment considering most of his previous walking partners ("8 out of 10", according to Dykes) did not succeed or otherwise had to prematurely leave the expedition due to injuries, altitude sickness, "fear" or an inability to keep up.
Dykes finds himself again distracted by business obligations as he has flown to Shanghai for a Chinese GQ photo shoot. But soon he will be back walking as he still has 1600 miles left which he suggests will take about four months.
