Veyt to Join a Sailboat to the Caribbean, Continue Quest
Jelle Veyt’s first two plans to reach Denali fell through for very different reasons. Initially, he tried to row across the Atlantic with two friends. However, just a few days in, intense seasickness meant he had to abandon the journey on the island of Tenerife.
His next idea was to cycle through Siberia and then cross to Canada, but this plan collapsed when Russia invaded Ukraine. Since then, he has been training hard, doing some ski-mountaineering in the Alps, and brushing up on his climbing skills.
Now, he is ready to announce a new plan. Veyt will join a sailing crew to travel across the Atlantic. “I happily decided to cycle to Lorient (France). From there I'll join a sailing boat to the Caribbean islands (Saint Lucia),” he wrote on his Instagram. From there he still needs to find a way to hop over to Central America, where he’ll begin a long 8,700-mile cycle ride north to Denali.
