Veyt Cycles To Lorient, Will Prepare to Sail

Date: September 29, 2022
Approximate GPS Location: (47.72°N, 3.36°W)

Jelle Veyt is back on the move after a long hiatus. Veyt’s initial plans to get to the fifth mountain of his human-powered seven summits unraveled. First, he became severely seasick trying to row across the Atlantic, forcing him to abandon the plan. Then, his plan to cycle through Russia en route to the Bering Strait was undone by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

His new plan to reach Denali involves cycling and sailing. On September 13, he set back off on his bicycle, riding from his home in Belgium down into France. After a week he arrived in Lorient where he will join a sailboat crew to sail to the Caribbean.

“At the start of November, we’ll depart from this port, but first I still have lots of work to do,” Veyt wrote.
