Unable to Access Money Due To Coronavirus, Casey Earns Keep Farming

Date: March 24, 2020
Approximate GPS Location: (7.54°S, 75.02°W)

Back in early February, Casey reported that he had found a new walking partner, Pizzarro. He is now in a region of the Peruvian Amazon with a high indigenous population, and the language spoken is called Kapanowa. Pizzaro speaks Kapanowa as well as a little bit of Spanish, so he was obviously a big asset to the journey.

"I am very happy, it was a beautiful adventure for me," said Pizzaro in mid-February after they had crossed 60 miles (100km) of "primary deep jungle".

We did not hear from Casey again until March 15, when he reported that his Garmin Inreach had not been working, preventing him from sending tweets.

As much of a blessing as Pizzaro may have been, Casey informed us on March 19 that "two guides had quit on two separate occasions," and that it left him with "logistical nightmares and no cash after getting them home."

He reports he is now stuck in a remote pueblo (indigenous village) for a few weeks with no money and he is unable to enter a larger town for money due to the coronavirus lockdown.

In the meantime, Casey reports, he is helping harvest "yucca, etc." and constructing "a palm leaf roof in return for food and hammock space."
