Pete Casey

Iquitos, Peru!

Date: March 16, 2019
Approximate GPS Location: (3.75°S, 73.32°W)

Casey has finally made it to Iquitos, his anticipated milestone as it is Peru's biggest city in the Amazon with a population of over 300,000. The main news we have at this point is that the expedition is now on hold as Casey resolves "various issues".

One likely issue is that his intrepid, kind and trusty guide, Diego is now headed home. This likely indicates his exit from the expedition. For the past few weeks, Casey's tweets have revolved around Diego. Casey reported that he interviewed Diego about his life and family life in the Yavari River/'Tri-border' area (the border between Brazil, Peru and Colombia) and the jobs he has taken to put food on the table. It is highly likely that Diego has pressing issues of family life and sustenance that require his attention.
