Maldague Kayaks Past Mark Twain’s Hometown

Date: October 08, 2018
Approximate GPS Location: (39.63°N, 93.43°W)

Maldague passed into Missouri from Iowa with Illinois still on the left. He experienced a lightning storm while waiting to pass through a lock. Most recently, he passed Mark Twain's hometown of Hannibal, Missouri.

River levels have risen to "minor" flooding levels from the many large rivers feeding into the Mississippi. This is a mixed bag for Maldague. On the one hand there are fewer shoreline spots for camping, but on the plus side, the current is stronger and there are fewer motorized boats on the river because they are worried about flooded, unseen obstacles.
